INTO THE LIGHT

Light is more than brightness

Light is more than brightness. It is a call, a direction, a promise that there is more to come. INTO THE LIGHT shows abandoned rooms where windows and doors are not merely openings but thresholds onto something unknown.

You stand in the dark, and somewhere ahead of you it is bright. Sometimes the light gives away the world behind it: a garden, a corridor, the next room. Sometimes it burns out everything and leaves only a sense of what lies beyond. That is exactly where its power sits. It draws the eye out of the dark, sets the imagination running and turns a way out into a destination. What is actually behind it hardly matters. It is enough that it is bright.

In abandoned houses the light is the one tenant who stayed. It arrives every morning, moves through the rooms, rests on a landing, a doorstep, a stretch of wall, and leaves again in the evening. It knows these rooms better than anyone who ever lived in them, and every day it makes them a little brighter while they fall apart.

These pictures speak less of decay than of setting out. Of the moment you stand up and walk towards the brightness without knowing what waits there. Everyone knows that moment, in small things and in large ones, and everyone knows how much courage it takes.

In INTO THE LIGHT it is the light itself that shows the way. An invitation to follow the brightness even when you cannot see where it leads.
