Vaulted cloister loggia overlooking the hills of the Douro valley, Portugal

Round arches rest on richly carved stone columns, and the rear wall still carries traces of a relief or fresco. Morning light enters at an angle through the openings and settles warmly on the stone slabs of the floor. Through the foremost arch, the view opens onto wooded hills lying in haze.
