Hexagonal basalt columns by the sea at the Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland

Tightly packed hexagonal basalt columns form an uneven surface that slopes gently toward the sea. Some columns rise as a small mound, while others lie flat, holding shallow pools of water. Green algae cover parts of the stone near the waterline. A clouded sky reflects faintly in the calm sea.
