DREAMSCAPES

Some places you know before you have seen them. They surface in dreams, in the memory of books, in pictures you carried in your head as a child without knowing where they came from. DREAMSCAPES follows that longing into landscapes that look as though somebody invented them.

They are places of distance and half-light, coasts, rock and horizons where time keeps a speed of its own. Nothing presses, nothing calls. The light comes and goes in hours rather than seconds, the weather crosses the land like a thought, and by evening the place is not the one it was at dawn, although nothing has moved.

Sometimes an arch stands in them, a wall, a jetty, the trace of people who once wanted to stay here too. These traces do not make the landscape smaller, they give it a scale. You see that someone stood here before you and had the same view, and that the land outlasted them, as it outlasts everyone.

Longing is a feeling with a direction. It always points to wherever you are not. These photographs try to hold the moment in which you are there after all and the longing still does not stop, because the place stays larger than any visit to it.

DREAMSCAPES is an invitation to let your gaze grow long. To stand, to look, to let everything near fall away and to wish that the moment would not end.
