Burnt-out drawing room with a collapsed roof in a château in Belgium
A single armchair stands on a raised mound of debris in the middle of a burnt-out drawing room. The wooden ceiling structure hangs down in tatters, with charred beams crossing above the space. Panelled walls and a tall window looking out onto greenery have survived. The contrast between the charred wood and the bright light outside is striking.
