Collapsed ballroom of a palazzo in Emilia-Romagna, Italy
A huge pile of splintered wooden beams fills the lower part of what was once a lavishly painted hall. The walls above still show pale pink and blue murals in elaborate framing. Windows and doors with wooden shutters have partly survived. The force of the destruction stands in sharp contrast to the delicate painted decoration.
