In this black-and-white image, a grand piano stands alone in the centre of a tall hall, framed by a geometrically patterned transom above the doorway. Three windows in the background let light fall onto the flaking plaster, with open doors to dark side rooms on either side. Plaster comes away from the walls in broad patches, and dust covers the floor. The room's silence seems to carry through into the image itself.
