Turquoise water in an abandoned marble quarry in Italy
Vertical walls of white and grey marble, streaked with black water traces, enclose a rectangular basin. The water inside glows in intense turquoise, reflecting the pale stone surfaces. Individual cut blocks still stand in place, as if the work had been interrupted. Small clumps of plants grow from narrow cracks in the rock.
