Staircase arrangement with the inscription Scala Santa in a forgotten church in Italy

Above a central round arch, dark lettering reads Scala Santa, beneath it a steep staircase leads to a cross shaped niche with a small altar. Two symmetrical side staircases with blue and white painted walls flank the centre, framed paintings hanging above. The paint has flaked away in many places, debris covering the steps. Despite the decay, the space retains its solemn arrangement.
