SPLENDORE DIMENTICATO

Palace with a symmetrical double staircase and ceiling fresco in Italy

Two mirrored flights of pale marble stairs rise toward a small niche with an ornate basin. The vault above carries a fresco in pink, ochre and pale blue, its surface flaking in broad patches. Dark stone columns frame the space, the floor covered in fine debris. Despite the decay, the symmetry feels strict and calm.
