Theatre production “CORPUS DELICTI”, Die Katakombe, Frankfurt

Germany in the year 2057. Common sense has, quite literally, prevailed. Genetic research, early medical detection and strict hygiene laws prevent even the outbreak of a common cold. Mia Holl, a young biologist, was until recently very much in favour of a system that rigidly protects its citizens from physical suffering. But ever since her brother Moritz was convicted of the murder of a woman on the basis of a DNA test and killed himself in prison, Mia's life has been thrown off course. She doubts Moritz‘ guilt, lets herself go, no longer submits her nutrition reports and even smokes a cigarette. The justice system takes aim at her, because Mia's behaviour endangers the common good. Mia becomes the plaything of a show trial that keeps the nation in suspense. Her most important opponent is the journalist Heinrich Kramer, whose book Gesundheit als Prinzip staatlicher Legitimation is a key work of the prevailing doctrine …

With my photographs of abandoned psychiatric hospitals in Italy I accompany the play by means of large-scale rear projections as a stage backdrop.
