Polychrome-painted corridor with an inscription in Castello di Sammezzano, Tuscany, Italy
A barrel-vaulted corridor is painted from end to end with geometric patterns in red, blue, green, and gold, with a round ceiling light hanging at its center. At the far end of the corridor, an inscription appears above a further passage, surrounded by even denser decoration. A round wrought-iron grate is set into the floor at the center, framed by octagonal tiles. The dense patterning covers walls, ceiling, and floor alike.
