HOUSE OF CULTURE
Ruined portico with Ionic columns at the House of Culture in Sokhumi, Abkhazia
Four tall columns with Ionic capitals carry a semicircular balcony projection, its roof above the ceiling already collapsed to reveal bare wooden beams. Dense foliage grows into the space through the open rows of windows behind. A low, blue-painted balustrade is almost entirely overgrown with young shoots. The weathered columns and the deep green form a clear contrast.
