Polychrome-painted cross vault with a fireplace in a palazzo in Piedmont, Italy
A groin vault is painted entirely with geometric ornament in red, blue, gold, and green, and is carried by sturdy, dark-painted columns. A stone fireplace with a framed heraldic shield above it stands against the back wall, surrounded by bright red wall paint. Round-arched windows let light into the room from both sides, and the floor is covered with sand and building debris. The intense coloring of the ceiling contrasts with the plain furnishing of the room.
