Moorish-style peacock hall with polychrome ceiling decoration in Castello di Sammezzano, Tuscany, Italy
An elongated hall is entirely covered with fan-like, ribbed vault sections in red, blue, gold, and green, recalling spread peacock feathers. Two richly decorated doors of dark wood with gilded fittings face each other on the side walls, and an elaborately carved arched door closes the room at the far end. The floor shows a fine inlay pattern of multicolored wood tiles. Every surface of the room is covered in ornament, with no space left bare.
