Chapel with a frescoed ceiling in an abandoned villa in Italy

A narrow corridor beneath a painted barrel vault, floral garlands and ornaments in faded green and ochre tones covering the curve. In one place the ceiling has cracked open, plaster peels away from the walls in large patches, and a stone cross leans against the edge. Light falls through an oval window and an open doorway at the far end onto rubble and loose stone slabs on the floor. The once elaborate decoration now reads as fragile and worn at once.
