Blue-painted vaulted ceiling on a balcony of an old castello in Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Cross ribs of pale stucco structure a deep blue vaulted ceiling, decorated with narrow bands of gold ornament. Ivy grows thickly over the left corner of the room, where the plaster has flaked away down to the masonry. An old bicycle frame and a wicker-wrapped glass demijohn lie in the corner on the dusty floor. The wall beneath the ceiling is kept in a lighter blue, likewise heavily weathered.
