Staircase beneath a painted forest landscape in an abandoned villa in Italy
A stone staircase runs past walls painted with firs, pines and a distant mountain panorama. Above the top step, the exposed wattle of a collapsed ceiling hangs like a frayed curtain. Dust and debris cover the steps, and the wrought iron railing has gone dull. The painted landscape and the real decay overlap.
