Staircase with golden lion motifs and a starred sky fresco in an abandoned villa in Italy
A narrow staircase with a wrought iron railing runs past walls painted with golden lions on a blue ground. Higher up, the view opens onto a vault dotted with golden stars, its plaster flaking away in broad patches down to the brick. The colours are bold yet marked by decay. The space feels tight and solemn at once.
