STEPS AND SHAPES

Curved staircase in a pink rotunda in an abandoned villa in Italy

A curved staircase with a richly ornamented wrought iron railing winds through a round, pale pink rotunda. The domed ceiling above is decorated with radiating stucco, oval niches structuring the walls. A second, smaller railing opens onto a landing with a doorway. The forms feel very elegant and fluid despite the wear.
