Moss-covered spiral well with a staircase in a historic park in Portugal

A round stone shaft descends in tight turns deep into the ground, encircled by a masonry staircase with pointed arches. Moss and lichen cover the stones in deep green, and small niches open toward the centre at several points. A mosaic pattern is just visible at the bottom, framed by the staircase's tapering rings. The mix of stone and growth gives the shaft a calm, almost archaic quality.
