A wooden spiral staircase winds down in tight turns, its steps covered in dust and flakes of plaster. Turned balusters follow the descent down to a narrow core at the centre. The wood is cracked and faded in many places, and the wall above shows peeling render. The staircase's warm brown draws the eye steadily downward.
