Octagonal hall with a wrought-iron watch structure in an abandoned prison in Portugal

At the center of an octagonal, yellow-washed hall stands a delicate structure of wrought-iron latticework with a pointed roof, from which narrow walkways lead to the surrounding galleries. Round-arched windows with a square glass grid let in muted light, and the ceiling is divided by white oval panels. Rust and grime cover the metal structure and the floor of the walkways. The strict symmetry and the ironwork recall a surveillance installation.
