An oval stairwell with a wrought-iron railing in an abandoned Art Nouveau villa in Italy

An oval stairwell in warm yellow and orange is accompanied by a curved wrought-iron railing that sweeps downward in soft lines. Weathered corbels with floral decoration line the upper opening, and a wall niche below shows traces of old painting. A tall, mullioned window lets light fall all the way to the floor. The rounded, almost heart-shaped contour of the shaft defines the whole composition.
