A frescoed ceiling with a putto medallion inside an abandoned villa in Italy
A flat coffered ceiling shows an oval medallion with a winged figure, framed by floral garlands and ribbons. Damp has turned large parts of the painting into mottled grey and brown, while clear outlines survive at the edges. A narrow window breaks the ceiling on one side. The contrast between surviving paint and decay defines the whole image.
