Frescoes and Murals

Photographed in Italy, Portugal and Spain

Frescoes are painted into the wall, not onto it. That is why they remain when everything else is long gone: gods and garlands above a salon without furniture, saints in the choir of a church without a roof, painted skies above stairs nobody climbs any more. Damp and light take a little of them every year, and it is precisely this state between splendour and disappearance that Sven Fennema records.

The works on this page come mostly from Italy, from HABITAT, EVERMORE and SANCTUARIES OF BLISS. They are rich in detail and colour and work as fine art prints, which render the painting's fine tones, and as canvas, which gives them a surface akin to the wall.

Every work as an open edition in three finishes and four sizes from €90.00, lab-made in Germany with a 75-year colour guarantee. Larger sizes as a numbered limited edition on request.

What you get

Sven Fennema has photographed abandoned villas, churches, theatres and industrial sites across Europe since 2008. Every print is made individually to order in a leading German fine art lab. Depending on the finish, your work comes signed directly from the artist; very large works the lab hands straight to a freight carrier.

  • Lab quality

No poster print: fine art prints are exposed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, canvases stretched on wooden frames, aluminium either printed directly or faced with Fuji Crystal paper, all in a leading German fine art lab.

  • Craftsmanship from Germany

Every work is made individually after your order: mounting, stretching and final inspection by hand, usually within 7–10 working days.

  • 75-year colour guarantee

The lab guarantees the colour fastness of the prints for 75 years. Your picture will look the same in decades as on the first day.

  • Direct from the artist

Open edition in three finishes and four sizes from €90.00, larger sizes as a numbered limited edition with certificate. Personal advice, insured shipping, free shipping to Germany from €100.00, 14 days right of withdrawal.
